Career History
I qualified from Southampton University as an adult registered nurse in 2009 and went on to work in an Acute Medical Unit for 5 years, where I discovered an interest in the field of neurology. I moved on to a neurological rehabilitation centre, gaining extensive knowledge around brain injuries and long-term support in a rehabilitation setting, progressing my career to registered home manager, managing different specialist teams to support clients with complex health needs.
As part of health care professional teams along with clients, I developed rehabilitation goals for a broad range of clients with varying complex, physical and mental health needs. This led me to a Complex Nurse Specialist role in the field of brain injury working in the community, directly supporting clients with complex health needs, writing care plans, risk assessments, providing training to support workers, and supporting clients to live as independently as possible in their own home, being able to access the things they enjoy within the community.
Personal attributes and motivation
I am a very passionate and caring person, and from a young age I aspired to be a nurse. I enjoy using my creativity to support different brain injury charities through running a marathon, organising fayres, making cakes, and wearing crazy hats.
Raising awareness and educating people on the effects of brain injuries is very important to me. I have personal experience of how brain injury can affect families, having supported a family member through diagnosis of brain tumour and subsequent treatment following his diagnosis.
I enjoy being able to use my empathy, creativity, knowledge, and skills to support others to achieve their life goals and lead the life they would like and being part of their journey supporting them to succeed, no matter what the goal: it’s awe-inspiring.
Current work
I relish the opportunity to develop a rapport and work with people long term, contributing to their quality of life.
