Career History
I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1989 at Guy’s Hospital. I worked various posts focussed on providing rehabilitation, including an appointment as Duty Nurse/Team Leader on the specialist Head Injury Rehabilitation Unit at Ticehurst House Hospital.
I began working in the Head Injury Clinical Management Service in June 1993, a newly founded Case Management service set up for clients who had been discharged from the Unit at Ticehurst House.
I began working in the Head Injury Clinical Management Service in June 1993, a newly founded Case Management service set up for clients who had been discharged from the Unit at Ticehurst House.
When I worked at the Hospice in the Weald and Tonbridge Cottage Hospital I needed to work local to home with clear on/off duty boundaries for a time, and so I used this opportunity to update my clinical nursing skills. Working on the in-patient ward at the Hospice developed my ability to empathise and deliver meaningful support promptly to people at a time of great trauma.
A year working in a busy local NHS unit broadened my comprehensive clinical update, as well as improved my understanding of current processes and services. This has also enabled me to provide better informed support to vulnerable people in need of health care treatment.
Current Work
I started work as a Brain Injury Case Manager for Head First in June 1994.
I managed a caseload and undertook writing Case Management Reports, Immediate Needs Assessments etc. I was a Supervisor for Case Manager colleagues and provided editorial support for colleagues’ report writing.
I am responsible for my own case load of clients and also undertake Immediate Needs Assessments. My lengthy experience as a Brain Injury Case Manager means that I have excellent understanding of the sequelae of Brain Injury and broad experience in creating support for clients and families. I have led clinical teams of differing structures, supporting clients with widely varying needs.
I am a Senior Case Manager as well as Lead Case Manager for the Acquired Brain Injury Training Programme and Seconder to Medicines Management Policies utilised by Head First.
