Career History
I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2001 in South Africa, majoring in General Nursing, Primary Health Care, Midwifery and Mental Health. During my studies I developed an interest in brain injury and assisted in rehabilitation programmes.
After qualifying I worked as a Staff Nurse in a range of UK hospitals and specialities including 3 years in the Acute Brain Injury Unit and Neurosurgical ward at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.
Since joining Head First in 2006, I have supported a range of clients and their families, with a focus on the client’s personal goals, maximising their rehabilitation potential and safeguarding. I have coordinated community rehabilitation programmes with large multi-disciplinary teams, and I have managed and trained support teams. I have also collaborated on various Head First research projects and conferences.
Current Work
In addition to day-to-day case management, I draw on my years of clinical experience in my role as Clinical Medicine Lead and I enjoy merging my clinical and IT skills to create useful recording systems. I also mentor, induct and supervise new case managers and in 2022 I was appointed as Company Director.
I have a keen interest in evolving brain injury research.
