Senior Brain Injury Case Manager

Career History

I qualified as a registered nurse in 1984 and worked in the accident and emergency department in my local general hospital before moving to work in Saudi Arabia at a military air base. I moved back to the UK in 1986 where I continued to work in a variety of settings within the NHS before moving into the private sector in 1993.

My interest in brain injury began in 1997 when I started managing a brain injury rehabilitation centre, where I worked until 2004.

Current Work

Since joining Head First in 2004 I have been able to continue to develop my knowledge and skills while supporting a wide range of clients with severe physical difficulties and those with cognitive, emotional and behavioural issues. I am involved in helping my clients and their families to cope with the issues they face following brain injury, which includes the management of complex support packages and the co-ordination of reviewing my clients’ rehabilitation with the support of a multi-disciplinary team, while supporting my clients to reach their potentail and fulfil their goals.

Co-ordinating the intervention of support workers and Multidisciplinary teams
Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate with adult clients of all ages and from all walks of life with empathy and humour
Experience of implementing community based rehabilitation programmes, linking in with local services where possible
Highly experienced at recruiting and managing support teams and carrying out supervisions, training and performance reviews
Effective communication skills and the ability to build a rapport with familes and support workers
Managing a varied, complex and long-term caseload
Ability to work closely with clients to identify their needs and to support them to achieve their goals
Providing assessments and other clinical documentation and reports as required
Excellent clinical and report writing skills and vast experience in the proof reading of expert and clinical reports
Highly experienced in working with litigation teams and Deputies
24 years experience in the management of adults with Acquired Brain Injury and of working clinically in the field of rehabilitation following brain injury
