Career History
I have worked in the care industry since 1997 and I qualified as a mental health nurse in 2005 where my first role was working with children and adolescents in a mental health inpatient unit. Since then I have worked in both inpatient and community settings with older adults where I developed my skills in carrying out complex health and social assessments, care planning and ongoing support for individuals with a wide range of needs including dementia, cognitive impairment, challenging behaviours, stroke, traumatic brain injury, psychosis, acute delirium, mood disorders, and vulnerability to exploitation.
I have worked with care teams within residential and nursing homes to assess and review challenging behaviour and have provided staff with training to improve their knowledge and skills to enhance the lives of residents within the homes and reduce or manage challenging behaviour associated with cognitive impairment and other mental health and physical challenges. I have extensive experience in reviewing psychosocial interventions and psychotropic medication for the treatment of psychosis, mood disorders, cognitive impairment and the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.
Throughout my career I have developed excellent interpersonal skills and am able to build and maintain relationships with clients, their families and carers and professionals involved in their care. In 2012 I was successful in gaining the opportunity to train as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and I have been able to build on my therapeutic skills and now work with people in more psychologically informed ways to improve the wellbeing of clients and their carers.
Current Work
I currently work with a range of clients and am passionate about supporting them in being able to live to their full potential. My current role involves working directly with the clients and their families, healthcare and statutory services and providing supervision to support workers.
