Adults and Children with Acquired Brain Injury
My background is primarily within supported living, enablement services and advocacy. I have worked in the health and social care sector since 2011 in various roles with local authorities, independent agencies and a neurological care centre unit. I qualified as a Social Worker in 2014, and in 2019 worked as an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate for clients facing serious medical treatment, a change of accommodation or deprivation of liberty assessments. Since 2014 I have primarily supported adults with Mental Capacity and Best Interests issues and also as a Relevant Persons Representative for clients subject to a Deprivation of Liberty order. I have provided input into the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and discharge-planning for patients within the care centre unit setting. This included access and eligibility to additional funding streams and other benefits, and rehabilitation planning for patients moving to less restrictive environments.
I joined Head-First in order to expand the opportunities for clients to achieve their full potential following injury, by facilitating progress in every domain of their lives.
I believe that all clients should be at the centre of all my work and support. I aim to work creatively to establish, as far as possible, the clients’ views, wishes and feelings, whilst all the time ensuring their rights, dignity and choices, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding and advocacy.
