Nick Woodward - Assistant Brain Injury Case Manager

Nick WoodwardI began working as a Support Worker in 1995 gaining valuable experience of supporting and coaching individual clients with learning disabilities, to help empower them with the necessary ADL and social skills for their progression into independent community living within Social Services.

I completed a course in NVQ Level 2 in Special Needs. I then took the position of Team Leader, introducing and implementing structures with the support team and providing supervision. I reviewed each individual service user goals and weekly plans, keeping or restructuring these in line with the individual’s goals and needs.

I then worked as a Day Centre Officer for adults with learning disabilities. Duties were very varied from social to individual goal planning. I also ran the entertainment team where I worked with the group to perform a talent show for the other service users. Furthermore observing practices, reporting to unit manager and giving feed back to possible solutions.

I began working with Head First as a Support Worker in 1998, working solely with individuals with an ABI. In 2002 I began working as a Senior Support Worker to a client with an Acquired Brain Injury and was 90% visually impaired. In order for safe mobility when out in the community I undertook a one week intense training course at Dalton College, a specialist residential and day services college for individuals with visual impairment. The course was part of the university course and empowered me with the technical safe guiding techniques. I came away with a certificate as a qualified sighted guide.

In 2006 I returned to Head First as a Senior Support Worker. After working one to one with various clients for several years, the past few years at senior level, I undertook my present position of Assistant Case Manager with Head First in 2008.
