I first began working with people with Acquired Brain Injuries in 2001 in a community care home. It was in this setting that I first worked with the Case Managers of Head First.
Through the experience and enjoyment I gained working with both the clients and members of the Head First team, I sought a formal qualification in Occupational Therapy to enable me to work with this client group more autonomously.
I began to study Occupational Therapy at Brunel University in September 2003. Throughout my university studies I continued to work part-time in the brain injury unit where my professional career began. I graduated from University in July 2006 as a Bachelor of Science with Honours.
Following graduation I gained employment on a mixed rotation. Between September 2006 and April 2007 I worked in the orthopaedic department of Kent and Sussex hospital, running a clinic for outpatients 4 days a week as well as treating both elective and trauma inpatients on the wards.
Between April and December 2007 I worked for the West Kent Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team. This team gate keeps the acute psychiatric ward for the West Kent area and where possible treats people at home to avoid the institutionalisation of admitting them to hospital.
Between January and March 2008 I worked in Mental Health Services for Older People providing dementia care.
I began working with Head First as a Case Manager in March 2008.
I am a practitioner member of BABICM, the British Association of Brain Injury Case Managers and a member of the College of Occupational Therapists.
