I qualified with a Diploma in Occupational Therapy in 1979. I have worked since then in a variety of in-patient and community settings within multidisciplinary teams, with considerable experience of initiating new rehabilitation services, leading change in existing services and capable of managing risk in both clinical and management issues.
I first began working with people with Acquired Brain Injury in 2001 in a hospital setting.
In addition to providing assessments and interventions as an Occupational Therapist, I worked closely with a neurophysiotherapist and ABI co-ordinator in developing a local ABI pathway. As a result of this work improvements were made in communication regarding clients needs and sign posting to appropriate rehabilitation, with the formation of a specialist network group which included Social Services representatives and PCT commissioners.
I also had a team leadership role which included management aspects such as supervision and appraisal, recruitment and teaching.
I then moved into a community based Occupational Therapy post which included working in a Day Service for clients with ABI. This service is lead by a clinical psychologist and has given me opportunities to work in community settings with clients and their families with particular emphasis on home based tasks and vocational rehabilitation.
I joined Head First(Assessment and Case Management) Ltd in July 2007 to work as a Brain Injury Clinical Case Manager providing Assessment and Case Management Services to brain injured clients, their families and support workers.
